To commemorate Goa@60, the Directorate of Information & Publicity, along with the Directorate of Higher Education organized a series of lectures by eminent resource persons in colleges all over Goa. A lecture titled "Animal Biodiversity of Goa" was hosted by Goa College of Home Science- Campal, Panaji on 9th December 2021 with Dr. Nitin Sawant as the resource person. Dr. Sawant (M.Sc., Ph.D.) is Assistant Professor (In charge Head), Department of Zoology, Goa University, Taleigao Plateau, Panaji-Goa.Dr. Sawant, began his lecture with a brief introduction to the various sanctuaries in Goa.

Citing examples, he spoke about the generalist, migratory and specialist species, their importance, and the habitats they belong to. He discussed animals having restricted habitat and those which can survive in any and every habitat.Through a powerpoint presentation, Dr. Sawant showcased the areas in Goa which are wildlife zones and how factors like tourism and poaching have led to their destruction.

He then spoke about animals which have become a menace or are vermins in Goa now eg wild boar, and those animals that are being poached for food, medicine or other reasons like the civet cat, pangolin, etc., that are likely to be extinct in the coming years.Dr. Sawant's session did full justice to the topic "Animal Biodiversity of Goa

It was interactive and informative, and was much appreciated by the staff and students. The session was followed by Q&A and discussion.F.Y.B.Sc. student Ms. LubnaShaikh compered the session. Assistant Professor Ms GauraviShirodkar, programme incharge, introduced the resource person.
