INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR ON TACKLING MICRONUTRIENT MALNUTRITION: FOOD BASED STRATEGIES

To commemorate National Nutrition Month, an International Webinar titled Tackling
Micronutrient Malnutrition: Food Based Strategies, was organized by the Goa College of Home Science on 29th September 2021, with support from National
Commission for Women (NCW). The webinar on Tackling Micronutrient Malnutrition: Food Based Strategies was an attempt to address the nutritional
needs and requirements of women, and to create awareness that micronutrient malnutrition is preventable through the implementation of food-based strategies. |

The coordinator of the webinar, Associate Professor
Ranju Kunkalikar, highlighted the concept and objectives of the webinar. The webinar included three technical sessions.
The first technical session on
"Diversifying staples - How to have big impact on Nutrition Challenges faced by Women" was conducted by Joana Kane Potaka, Assisstant Director General
(External Relations), ICRISAT - Global Head Quarter Hyderabad, Executive Director of the Smart Food Initiative.
The second technical session on "Traditional Food Processing Techniques and Micronutrient Bioavailability" by Jovila Pinto,
Diabetes Dietician, Wansbeck Hospital, Northumberland UK, included a detailed account of how the various simple traditional food

processing methods followed across the world would help in increasing the bioavailability of micronutrients and it could
help in combating malnutrition.The third technical session on "Hidden Hunger: A Silent Epidemic Speaker" was conducted by Dr Uma Kulkarni,
Professor, Food Science and Nutrition, and Head, FSN Btech (Food Tech), College of Community Science, University of Agricultural Sciences, Dharwad,
Karnataka.
Over 200 participants from all parts of India participated in the webinar hosted on Zoom and live streamed on
YouTube . All the participants received e certificates.
